New York City Firefighters Endorse John Liu
For City Comptroller

The Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) of Greater New York announced that they have endorsed John Liu for the office of Comptroller of the City of New York. The UFA represents 20,000 active and retired New York City Firefighters and Fire Marshals and is the largest firefighters union local in the world.

Steve Cassidy, UFA President said, "John Liu has demonstrated his leadership as a member of the City Council, supporting firefighter and public safety issues and has a background in finance as an actuary. He fought to halt the efforts in 2003 and 2009 to close our community firehouses and reduce fire company staffing to unsafe levels. John Liu fully understands that while budgetary priorities must be made in the city, public safety must be at the forefront."

"We are here today because we believe that John Liu is the candidate that fills the duties of Comptroller of the City of New York and can be an advocate for all New Yorkers," concluded Mr. Cassidy.

"I'm honored to receive the endorsement of the Uniformed Firefighters Association - the first responders and first heroes of this great City. Every day firefighters put their lives on the line to ensure we are protected. Every day, we should say 'thank you' for the job well-done," said John Liu.

He continued, "Over the years, I have worked with the members of UFA and my local representation in Queens, and I'm thrilled to have helped secure funding to save firehouses and preserve critical services. There are some budgetary items that are non-negotiable -- funding for firefighters and firehouses across the city is on the top of the list. When I'm elected Comptroller, I will stand shoulder to shoulder with UFA to fight for their just due."
