Uniformed Firefighters Association Endorse John Quaglione for City Council

Brooklyn, NY – This afternoon in front of Engine 284/Ladder 149 in Brooklyn, the Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) formally endorsed John Quaglione for the open City Council seat in the 43rd district.

Quaglione, a lifelong resident of the 43rd district and longtime aide to State Senator Marty Golden (R-22), has been a strong supporter of public safety initiatives. The election is to replace term-limited City Council Member Vincent Gentile.

“John Quaglione has spent his entire life in the 43rd district, working alongside Marty Golden for almost two decades on issues that help New York City Firefighters, their families and citizens all over the City,” said UFA President Gerard Fitzgerald. “He’s shown a commitment to working on behalf of our members on issues that range from protecting firehouses, to ensuring the long term sustainability of our earned benefits. The UFA is happy to support John’s campaign in the 43rd.”

"The Uniformed Firefighters Association knows I'm the guy who will fight the closing of any fire house throughout the city, block any cuts in funding to the FDNY and oppose any reduction in benefits to our firefighters," said John Quaglione. "We can live without politicians, but we can't live without the best fire department in the world."

Quaglione was an outspoken opponent of former Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s plan to close a firehouse in the 43rd district years ago and has pledged to fight for earned benefits for all firefighters regardless of their rank and seniority.

This endorsement marks the second from the UFA in the upcoming 2017 municipal elections.
