Brooklyn Boy Dies Following House Fire

NY 1 - December 30, 2010

An eight-year-old boy died today, following a fire at a Brooklyn home that did not have any smoke detectors.

Flames broke out just before 6 a.m. on the first floor of a two-story brick house on East 57th street in Marine Park.

The fire was brought under control just before 6:30 a.m.

Despite the snow, officials took only five minutes to get to the scene after receiving the call.

"He was always a playful kid, always happy," said Alyson Lieberman, a neighbor. "I just saw them recently playing in the snow, very happy. And you know, they're actually on vacation from school now for the holidays. Just very upsetting."

Four other people were taken to Brookdale Hospital with minor injuries.
