Services Held For Victims Of Fatal Brooklyn Fire

NY 1 - November 30, 2009

Family and friends gathered Sunday to remember the victims of a Brooklyn house fire that led to changes to the city's 911 call system. The funeral for Myrtel Jean, 42, and his sons Sebastian, 2, and Fabrice, 1, were held at Hebron Church in Brooklyn.

Their bodies will be flown back to Haiti for burial.

Jean and his sons died November 18th in a fire investigators believe was sparked by burning incense.

The fire led to questions about response times after firefighters initially showed up a block away from the scene.

The controversy prompted fire officials to make temporary changes to the 911 call taking system.

Under the new rules, fire dispatchers are being conferenced in on calls to verify details about the emergency and ask questions.

Officials say the change will help call takers get accurate information before sending help.
