Setback for 'Deutsche 3'

NY Post - November 25, 2009

The three construction supervisors charged with manslaughter for the fatal 2007 Deutsche Bank fire got a bad break yesterday -- a judge nixed their bid to see grand-jury minutes they call critical to their defense.

Manhattan prosecutors blame Jeffrey Melofchik, of Bovis Lend Lease, and Mitchel Alvo and Salvatore DePaola, of the John Galt Corp., for the deaths of two firefighters. The defendants allegedly failed to fix a gap in a standpipe needed to pump water to the burning top half of the 9/11-damaged building.

Firefighters Joseph Graffagnino and Robert Beddia died of smoke inhalation.
