A desperate Upper West Side mom struggled courageously yesterday to rescue her adult daughter from a blocked-off bedroom in their burning Upper West Side apartment, but the younger woman perished.
Firefighters were called to the fire at 250 W. 104th St. just before 6 p.m., after the mother came home from work and found the third-floor apartment the two shared filled with smoke.
She went to the bedroom, but found it mysteriously blockaded, according to neighbors who responded to the mom's cries for help.
A fire official said there was debris behind the door.
The daughter, 48, apparently died of smoke inhalation, officials said. Her name wasn't immediately released.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
