Suspicious Queens Fire Leaves 1 Dead, 3 Injured

A suspicious early morning fire in a Queens apartment has left one dead and three injured, according to officials.

At 3:16 a.m., New York City firefighters from 25 units responded to the two-alarm fire at 156-07 71st St. in the Kew Gardens Hills section of the borough, according to a New York City Fire Department spokesman.

The fire originated in a fifth-floor apartment in the seven-story residential building, causing serious injuries to four occupants in the apartment, according to the fire spokesman. One of the victims, a 44-year-old woman, was taken to New York Hospital Queens, where she was pronounced dead, according to a police spokesman.

The other victims were taken to various hospitals and all were listed in serious condition, according to a fire spokesman.

110 firefighters responded to the blaze, which was contained at 3:57 a.m. Four were treated for minor injuries, according to the fire spokesman, who said the blaze is being investigated as suspicious.
