STATEN ISLAND, N.Y -- A person was taken to the hospital after the FDNY responded Monday morning to a car fire inside an auto body shop in Brighton Heights.

The incident occurred around 9:57 a.m. inside a one-story, 20-by-80-foot garage at 419 Castleton Ave., according to a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS.

One civilian was transported in an unknown condition to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, the FDNY spokesman said.

About 12 units and 60 members brought the “all-hands” fire under control in less than a half-hour, at 10:19 a.m., the FDNY spokesman said.

A person who answered the phone at the repair shop did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
