UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A two-alarm fire that broke out in an Upper East Side apartment building drew a massive FDNY response to the neighborhood on Thursday night.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at 1694 Second Ave., near the corner of East 88th street, shortly after 8:30 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said. Efforts to put the fire out were brief but intense, as the FDNY upgraded its response to 2 alarms but had the fire under control within a half-hour.
Twenty-fire FDNY units and 106 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene, an FDNY spokesman said.
One person suffered minor injuries during the response and refused medical care, an FDNY spokesman said.
City fire marshals will investigate the cause of the fire.
