Firefighters descended on the home, located at 148 Braisted Ave., at around 7:23 p.m., a spokesperson for the FDNY said.
Arnie Kravitz, who lives in the area, said he smelled smoke from “down the block” and came to the scene to investigate as the FDNY began to arrive.
Kravitz said the fire was “raging out of the top two windows” of the home when he arrived, but that the residents of the building were able to safely escape the blaze.
Multiple FDNY and EMS vehicles crowded the street as vehicle traffic was restricted between Nehring Avenue and Kelly Boulevard.
The fire was placed under control at 7:59 p.m., according to the FDNY, and firefighters could be seen removing debris from the second story of the building at around 8 p.m.
