1 Dead in Brooklyn Apartment Fire: FDNY

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, Brooklyn — One person died in a fire in Brooklyn's Bedford-Styuvesant neighborhood Wednesday night, according to an FDNY spokesperson.

Officials received the call to 874 Jefferson Ave at about 7:15 p.m., where a fire had started on the second floor of a three story building.

The fire was quickly contained, but firefighters discovered one person had died when they responded to the fire. Police identified him as a 52-year-old man.

A second person was taken to a local hospital in serious condition with injuries that were not life-threatening. A firefighter was also taken to a local hospital in serious condition with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
