An FDNY auto mechanic died from coronavirus on Sunday — the department’s first known employee to succumb to the illness.

James Villecco, of Staten Island, worked in the FDNY’s Bureau of Fleet Services since 2014. He was 55 years old.

⁣“Behind the thousands of calls our members respond to every day is a team of dedicated and skilled mechanics who ensure our ambulances are running 24/7,” FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said in a statement.

“James Villecco was one of those truly unsung heroes in our Department whose outstanding work provided medical care for the people of our city. The entire Department mourns his loss.”⁣

Villecco worked at repair shops in Coney Island and Queens during his tenure.

He leaves behind his wife, Joy, and daughter, Jessica.
