Thirty years ago Wednesday, a Bronx club was set on fire by an arsonist. The fire killed 87 people.
The Happy Land Social Club was an illegal club that only had one exit. Convicted arsonist Julio Gonzalez had gotten into an argument with his ex-girlfriend that night and got kicked out of the club.
Gonzalez came back with gasoline and matches and lit the only exit on fire.
He was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Gonzalez died in state prison in 2016.
