STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Firefighters quickly placed a fire under control in New Springville Wednesday afternoon, an FDNY spokesman said.

The Fire Department responded to a call of a fire on the first floor of a private dwelling at 70 McVeigh Ave. at 2:14 p.m., the spokesman said.

It took firefighters 45 minutes to bring the fire under control and no injuries were reported, according to the spokesman.

McVeigh Avenue was partially blocked off by FDNY trucks and minor traffic was building up nearby.
