HARLEM, NY — More than 100 firefighters battled a blaze that broke out in a Harlem apartment building early Friday morning, an FDNY spokesman said.
The fire broke out on the fifth floor of 22 Bradhurst Avenue, located between West 143rd and 144th streets, shortly after 2:15 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said. Flames spread through a building shaft to the third floor, prompting a two-alarm response, fire officials said.
Twenty-five fire and EMS units and 106 personnel responded to the fire, which was under control by about 3 a.m., fire officials said.
