One person was killed in a fire in a Manhattan high-rise building Friday night, the city fire department said.
Firefighters were called to the building on East 84th Street near First Avenue just after 9 p.m. for a blaze on the 25th floor of the 32-story high-rise, authorities said. One person was seriously hurt but was expected to survive while another had minor injuries, fire department officials said.
Nearly 80 firefighters battled the blaze. It took them about 40 minutes to bring it under control, and none were injured.
Officials did not release the identity of the victim Friday night. The cause of the fire was not confirmed as of this writing.
