3-Alarm Fire Breaks Out Above East Village Restaurant, FDNY Says

More than 100 firefighters were working to put out a blaze that erupted in multiple floors of the East 7th Street building, officials said.

EAST VILLAGE, MANHATTAN — More than 100 firefighters were called to put out a fire that had broken out above a restaurant on East 7th Street on Monday afternoon, the FDNY said.

The blaze erupted just before 4 p.m. in a building at 48 East 7th St., where Italian restaurant Villa Della Pace sits on the first floor.

By about 4:15 p.m. it had turned into a three-alarm fire and had about 140 firefighters working to put it out, an FDNY spokesperson said. The fire was in multiple floors of the five-story building and in the walls and cockloft, according to the spokesperson and FDNY alerts.

"We have four hose lines stretched at this time," the spokesperson said. "There's a lot of water being put on this."

The spokesperson said that there were no injuries reported from the fire.
