FDNY Battles Overnight Fires at East Shore Deli, then South Shore Home

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-- Firefighters responded to a pair of fires Sunday on Staten Island, first on the East Shore, then hours later on the South Shore.

The first incident was reported at about 12:30 a.m. inside 27 Giffords Lane, a one-story building listed online as Grand Delfino Bagels and Deli, according to emergency radio transmissions and Google Maps.

The flames were reportedly knocked down less than a half hour after firefighters responded.


At about 5:45 a.m., emergency crews were called to a fire that started in the basement at 280 McBaine Ave. in Rossville, according to the FDNY.

The fire was placed under control by about 6:20 a.m.

No injuries were initially reported, according to radio transmissions.
