LIRR Train Cars Derail Near Jamaica Station in Queens

NY 1 - November 23, 2019

Passengers were evacuated from a Long Island Rail Road train Friday night in Queens after two cars derailed.

"It's always something. We have two small kids, and it's just unacceptable," one passenger said after she left the train. "I am so sick of paying a fortune for this kind of stuff to happen constantly."

According to the LIRR, the rear cars of a 10-car train that left Penn Station for Babylon derailed shortly before 9:30 p.m., just east of Jamaica Station. The train left Penn Station at 8:56 p.m.

A rescue train was sent to the scene and power was shut off, officials said.

The cause of the derailment was under investigation.
