1010 Wins - October 22, 2019

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A worker was killed, and another injured, in a wall collapse at a construction site on the Lower East Side Monday morning.

The two victims were rescued from 60 Norfolk Street and transported to a hospital around 10:00 a.m. One of the workers was pronounced dead at the hospital. The second worker suffered a leg injury. He was listed in stable condition.

Upon arrival, Department of Building engineers and inspectors determined that an existing masonry wall fell on to two workers.

“DOB experts in structural engineering and emergency response are on scene conducting an aggressive investigation of this tragedy," a spokesperson for the buildings departments said. "Every worker who leaves for the job site in the morning deserves to come home safely at night. We will provide updates as our investigation progresses.”

DOB’s preliminary investigation determined that there is currently no imminent danger of further collapse, although structural stability inspections conducted by the Department’s Forensic Engineering Unit are still ongoing.
