The NYPD Harbor Unit rescued four people stranded in a boat about a quarter-mile from the shoreline of Great Kills Harbor on Memorial Day. Police responded to a 911 call of a boat in distress, in which the caller said that people on the boat needed help and their cell phone was about to die.
NYPD Harbor Launch Number 312, piloted by Det. Albert Marvelli and Officer Matthew Rippel, found four people aboard a disabled 21-foot, green-and-white recreational boat. It safely towed the boat with four uninjured occupants back to Great Kills Yacht Club, according to police.
