STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- An overturned tractor trailer on the New Jersey-bound West Shore Expressway is sparking a large emergency response and delays on Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred between the Arthur Kill and Woodrow road exits, and an FDNY spokesman said that two people were injured as a result of the incident.

The extent of their injuries were not available.

Both people were transported to Staten Island University hospital in Ocean Breeze, the spokesman said.

The trailer appears to have fallen over the median and there are emergency vehicles and delays on both sides of the highway.

Traffic is at a standstill and extending back to Sharrotts Road heading northbound on the West Shore Expressway, as of 7:30 p.m., and delays extend back to the Victory Boulevard exit heading towards New Jersey.

Further information will be posted as it becomes available.
