STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- One person suffered minor injuries Friday morning when a fire broke out at a Silver Lake apartment building.

The civilian was treated at the scene of the blaze, which occurred around 8:44 a.m. at 800 Victory Blvd., according to a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS.

About 60 FDNY personnel and 12 units brought the “all-hands” fire under control at 9:10 a.m., the spokesman said.

Police were called to redirect traffic on Victory Boulevard near Silver Lake Park during the emergency response, according to emergency radio transmissions.

"They told everyone in the sixth floor to leave and then we saw black smoke,“ said resident Gabriella Valentin.

Firefighters at the scene could be seen dousing themselves with water to cool off as the temperature soared into the 80s with a real feel in the 90s.
