2 Killed When Car Slams Into Pole, Bursts Into Flames In Brooklyn

BELMONT - The FDNY says a fire broke out at an apartment building in Belmont overnight Sunday, sending multiple people to the hospital.

The fire broke out at 725 Garden St. around 1 a.m. Officials say they believe the fire started in the apartment building's trash compactor.

Firefighters managed to put out the fire by 3:30 a.m.

Officials say 13 people were injured in the fire, with two in critical condition, five in serious condition and four with only minor injuries.

The New York Post says one of the critically injured is a 3-year-old toddler, who has second- and third-degree burns on 80% of their body.

All of the injured were taken to the hospital.

The Red Cross is helping those affected and tells News 12 that it’s providing emergency housing for families.
