The city Medical Examiner has determined that the Harlem mom and her five kids who perished in a fire at their NYCHA apartment earlier this month all died from smoke inhalation and burns, and that the cause was accidental.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner announced the ruling Wednesday.
Andrea Pollidore, 45, her kids Nakiyra, 11, Brooklyn, 6, Andre, 8, Elijah, 3, and 32-year-old stepson Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf died in the blaze that broke out in the early morning hours on May 8 in the seven-story Fred Samuels Houses on Seventh Avenue near 142nd Street, according to authorities.
Authorities believe Pollidore fell asleep while cooking in her fifth-floor apartment and she had previously disconnected the unit’s smoke alarms, sources have told The Post.
The family members were boxed inside their bedrooms by the blaze — unable to reach the front door or fire escape — while firefighters battled in vain to reach them, authorities said.
