4 Injured as Car Flips On Access Road to Staten Island Expressway

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Four people were injured when a car flipped over in Castleton Corners near an entrance and exit to the Staten Island Expressway during the Thursday morning rush hour, according to the FDNY.

The crash was called at about 7:15 a.m. at Slosson and Lortel avenues, according to a spokesman for the FDNY.

A person is expected to recover from serious injuries, while two other people suffered minor injuries. The condition of the fourth person was unavailable. All of the patients were transported to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, according to the FDNY spokesman.

The gray Hyundai SUV that flipped on its side was righted by the NYPD Emergency Service Unit (ESU).

Preliminary information indicated that a delivery truck was involved in the crash, according to a spokesman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

The crash prompted a large FDNY and NYPD response. Traffic was backed up on nearby streets.
