SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — A fire that broke out in a Sunset Park apartment building Friday afternoon was set by a man who had stabbed his wife and daughter just moments before, police said.
Firefighters and NYPD were sent to the 373 42nd Street apartment shortly before 4 p.m. When officers got there, they found that a man who had gotten into an argument with his wife took out a knife and tried to stab her, an NYPD spokesmen said.
The man slashed his wife's finger and then ended up stabbing his daughter in the torso when she tried to help her mom, the spokesman said.
The man also hurt himself in the altercation. All three were sent to the hospital and are expected to survive, police said. The husband was arrested at Lutheran Hospital.
Firefighters had been called to the building because the man tried to light his apartment on fire, police said. An FDNY spokesman said about 12 units and about 60 firefighters were sent to the blaze.
Police said the fire was quickly put out and that the investigation is closed at this point.
