FDNY Honors Fallen Hero at Ceremony Outside Ladder Company 27 in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN - A grateful city is feeling the loss of fallen hero Christopher Slutman, the firefighter who died along with three other Americans in Afghanistan.

His fellow FDNY brethren honored him Wednesday with a promotion ceremony in Brooklyn.

Slutman, a 15-year FDNY veteran and Marine, called Ladder Company 27 home as a member of the FDNY.

Commissioner Nigro took time to honor the United States Marine after he lost his life in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan along with two others. Mayor Bill de Blasio called it the ultimate sacrifice and that the FDNY is making sure Slutman’s life is never forgotten.

Mayor de Blasio has ordered that flags across the city be lowered to half-staff to honor the life of Slutman.
