Worker Dies after Being Hit by Falling Brick in Midtown - April 09, 2019

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN — A construction worker died after being struck in the head by a falling object Monday morning while working on a Midtown Manhattan worksite, police and fire officials said.

The worker was injured when a piece of the facade of 311 East 50th St., near Second Avenue, collapsed just before noon, according to an FDNY spokesperson and Department of Building records.

EMS rushed the worker to NewYork-Presbyterian Hosptial in critical condition, an FDNY spokesman said. The 51-year-old man was declared dead at the hospital, police said.

FDNY officials requested the Office of Emergency Management inspect safety conditions on the construction site shortly after the worker fell, DOB records show.

Police did not identify the worker and said the city medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine his official cause of death.
