Firefighter Hurt Battling 2-Alarm Blaze in Washington Heights

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A firefighter was hurt Thursday night while operating on the scene of a two-alarm fire in a Washington Heights apartment building, an FDNY spokesman said.

Firefighters responded to 601 West 180th Street, located near the corner of St. Nicholas Avenue, shortly before 9:30 a.m. to battle a blaze on the six-story building's third floor, an FDNY spokesman said.

The fire spread to the apartment building's fourth floor, prompting the FDNY to call in a two-alarm response. Twenty-five fire units with more than 100 personnel responded to the scene, an FDNY spokesman said.

The firefighter who was hurt suffered minor injuries and was treated at St. Luke's hospital. The fire was placed under control around 10:50 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.
