Rockland: Funeral Held for Edward Meehan, Retired FDNY Lieutenant Who Responded to 9/11

A funeral was held Thursday at St. Anthony's Church in Nanuet for retired FDNY Lt. Edward Meehan.

Meehan, who was 59, died Feb. 2, of a 9/11-related illness.

According to NYC Fire Wire, which reports news about the New York City Fire Department, it was the third 9/11-related FDNY death in a week.

Meehan joined the FDNY in 1983 and retired in October.

He responded with Ladder 22 to the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001 and worked at Ground Zero afterward.

“This member bravely served this Department protecting life and property in the City of New York in the rescue and recovery at Manhattan Box 5-5-8087 World Trade Center,” read the FDNY’s death notice for Meehan.
