Mayor Bloomberg may be the first person to ever get a “#1 Grandpa” mug and have the sentiment actually be true.
A day after his daughter Georgina gave birth to his first grandchild, the billionaire New York leader got one of the familiar novelty mugs a Christmas gift from firefighters during visit to the FDNY’s Ladder 115 station in Queens this morning.
“My daughter wanted a family. And she’s ecstatic,” Bloomberg said, at a separate event at the 108th Precinct in Long Island City.
The child, Jasper Michael Brown Quintana ,came into the world at 4:34 p.m. Christmas Eve in New York City. The baby weighed in at 7.7 pounds.
Georgina, 30, and her equestrian boyfriend, Ramiro Quintana, have been dating for around a year. The couple share a home in Florida.
Asked if the “Michael” in the baby’s name was in honor of him, the Mayor quipped: “That’s what she tells me.”
After his morning Mayoral duties, Bloomberg said he was set to spend the rest of the day visiting his daughter and grandson at the hospital.
Bloomy said met the little tyke Tuesday night and described Jasper’s dad as attentive.
“He was texting me all day long — he was doing it in Spanish, actually, which is good for my practice,” he said.
