The UFA Scholarship Fund was established to help the families of active and deceased firefighters with the escalating cost of college. Thousands of eligible recipients have received checks from this fund to help defray the high cost of college tuition and fees.
Michael is a member of Sullivan Papain Block McGrath & Cannavo P.C. and one of the most accomplished and influential attorneys in New York.
For more than three decades, Michael has been General Counsel to the UFA. His expertise has helped firefighters, both professionally and personally, on a daily basis.
In 2013, he was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the UFA Delegate’s Convention for his dedicated and tireless work on behalf of the members. In 2016, Michael was also presented with The Seven Seals Award in recognition of his advocacy on behalf of veterans.
He has helped shape a body of law to compensate firefighters and their families for the harm they have suffered through the fault of others. In the wake of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, he successfully fought for passage of the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund and headed a pro bono team from Sullivan Papain that recovered more than $260 million from the Fund on behalf of firefighters and their families.
Michael is a proud and devoted family man. He presently lives in Manhattan with his wife, Cathy. He has two children and, together with Cathy, they have 14 grandchildren.
