Uniformed Firefighters Association Endorse Council Member Elizabeth Crowley

Queens, NY – This morning in front of Engine 286/Ladder 135 in Queens, the Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) formally endorsed Council Member Elizabeth Crowley (D-30) for reelection in Queens.

Since entering the City Council in 2009, Council Member Crowley has been a tireless advocate on behalf of New York City firefighters, working to keep firehouses open across the City when former Mayor Michael Bloomberg attempted to close critical locations throughout the five boroughs.

“For many years now, Council Member Crowley has stood by our side and been a critical ally to firefighters and our union in the City Council,” said UFA President Gerard Fitzgerald. “From the moment she arrived she stood up to the Bloomberg administration and fought to keep firehouses open across the City. As Chair of the City Council’s Committee on Fire and Criminal Justice Services, Crowley has been instrumental in pushing through legislation that has benefited firefighters, their families and all New Yorkers. We wholeheartedly support her for reelection in the 30th District.”

“I'm honored to receive the endorsement of the Uniformed Firefighters Association,” said Councilmember Crowley. “As Chair of the Committee on Fire & Criminal Justice Services, I have had the opportunity to work side by side with the UFA to ensure that local fire houses remain open and the members of the FDNY have the resources they need to safely and effectively protect our community. I look forward to continuing our strong partnership in the coming years in the City Council.”

Most recently Crowley was instrumental in securing $4 million in funding to ensure that every New York City Firefighter has access to a second pair of boots for the job.

The endorsement marks the unions first of the 2017 municipal elections.
