UFA Safety Message #12 Seat Belts

UFA Health and Safety Officer / Sergeant-at-Arms Bill Romaka wishes to remind the Membership to take their safety responsibilities seriously at all times. We will continue to highlight and remind our members of "safe actions" as spelled out by the Department. Stay well, and stay safe!

The FDNY Safety Bulletin #6, "Precautions to Ensure a Safe Response to Alarms" states the following:

3.2 Considerations For a Safe Response From Quarters:
3.2.8 While enroute, all seat belts shall be used. This is of utmost importance to members riding in bucket seats. When necessary to stand, maintain a firm grip on hand strap, hand rail or other substantial structural part of the apparatus to prevent falls from the apparatus.

4 From Outside Activities:
4.8 Members shall keep constantly on the alert to prevent being thrown from or dislodged from apparatus because of sudden stops, accelerations or turns. Seat belts must be used at all times.

*Have your Officer notify the Shops should you have any problems with the seatbelts. Additionally, caution needs to be taken when operating in a tower ladder bucket. Due to possible mechanical problems, members should always remember to be belted in.

**Please refer to the full Safety Bulletin #6 and familiarize yourself with its content. Also, please take the time to review previous Safety Messages as safety continues to be an on-going and top priority.
