A Word to the Wise

We at the UFA know how hard our members work at protecting all New Yorkers.  Now more than ever you need to protect yourself and others.  This St. Patrick's Day, as with all other parades since 9/11, you need to be vigilant about possible terrorist activities.  Protect yourself and others by reporting any suspicious packages or events to the closest Police Officer.

In addition, the Police will be out in force ensuring that DWI and Quality of Life Complaints are handled properly.  Cooperation with our brethren in the PBA is part of good labor relations.  We (the PBA & UFA) are in the business of protecting the public, not endangering them.  Do not endanger yourself or others by getting involved in alcohol related activities to the point of discrediting the Department, the Union, your fellow firefighters, and yourself.

The Department is in the process of assigning personnel to ensure that the public's respect for our members is not compromised by the unruly behavior of a small few.  The vast majority of our members, as always will act dignified and enjoy the day.  A very small percentage, make it difficult for both the Department and the Union with their inappropriate conduct.  We at the UFA will not condone, defend or support bad behavior.  If you are arrested, you are letting your family and all of us down.  The Public has a tremendous amount of respect for us; we clearly need that respect to continue.  Do not do anything to undermine that respect.  Enjoy the day and stay safe.

Fraternally,

Stephen J. Cassidy
President

Joseph A. Miccio
Recording Secretary
