The UFA and PBA will continue to follow the mayor at public events around the city in our continuing effort to inform the public that Firefighters and Police Officers have been working without a contract for two years and can't get a fair raise from Mike Bloomberg. On Friday August 6, the city offered us an insulting 3-year deal;
This offer is totally unacceptable. The UFA will now begin to take the steps necessary to get to PERB. We need all Delegates to inform the members of their companies that the UFA will continue to need Firefighters to turn out on short notice and picket the mayor.
Picket Tonight (Monday):
We now know that the mayor will hold a town hall meeting (Monday, August 9th) in Manhattan. The location is 272 West 10th Street between Greenwich and Washington St. The UFA requires at least 200 Firefighters (40-50 from each borough). You must be there by 6:30pm.
Picket Tomorrow Morning (Tuesday):
On Tuesday morning the UFA intends to picket all the major national news shows-CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox News. We need 200 Firefighters to be at midtown Manhattan at 6:30am (shows run until 9:00am) as follows:
This will give our issues more national media exposure. All Delegates should begin to get a list for both days, and fax to UFA at
212-683-0710, 212-683-4359 or 212-683-0690. All Firefighters should bring their yellow shirts if they have one. Our efforts are working - we continue to get good media coverage, and we intend to keep up the pressure through the convention. As always, thanks for your support!
