Events, Help, Fundraisers & Benefits: Cafe Apparatus Operations & Response The Department has publicly announced it intends to strictly enforce all Department Regulations. Recently a chauffeur was disciplined as a result of an accident. All chauffeurs should be aware of and follow all Department Regulations regarding apparatus safety and response. Make sure you review 65-2 Fax #67, which has been repeatedly faxed to all Companies. Back To Top PERB & the UFA Contract Mayor Bloomberg has refused to bargain in good faith. The City's last offer to New York's Bravest, 4 percent over 3-years (1% in Year 1; 2% in Year 2; and 1% in Year 3), is unacceptable. The UFA declared an impasse last month and the first PERB Mediation Session takes place on September 27th. The new UFA Delegate Manual 'Taylor Law & PERB' Chapter was published for each firehouse kitchen or housewatch and distributed in booklet form to each Delegate attending the September union meeting. It provides answers to many of the questions members may have regarding the process. Questions? Make sure you read it. Companies that do not have a copy may contact UFA Recording Secretary Joe Miccio at the UFA. Back To Top President Bush Endorsement New York City Firefighters are always prepared and ready to do whatever it takes to protect the citizens of New York should terrorists strike us again. This war on terror will not end soon. It is critical to our members and families for the United States to continue showing its resolve to insure events like September 11, 2001 never happen again -- here in New York -- or in any state where first responders may unnecessarily lose their lives while protecting others against terrorist attacks. President Bush's steadfast courage and leadership has been inspiring. When many around us looked to see which way the wind was blowing, he didn't. President Bush decided a course of action and has repeatedly shown that he is willing to do whatever it takes to protect this country and take the fight to the terrorists wherever they choose to hide -- and keep it off U.S. soil. It is because of his great leadership that the UFA proudly supports and endorses President George W. Bush for re-election as the President of the United States of America. The UFA will be assisting President Bush at various political events--especially regarding the 'swing states'--from now through election day. The USA must not back down on the War on Terror!!! Back To Top Toll Waiver Bill Update The UFA is in the process of working with Legislators and the MTA on the logistics for implementing the recently passed budget bill by Senator Bruno that will provide a pilot toll waiver program on all TBTA bridges and tunnels for NYC Firefighters. Please do not call your Trustee or the UFA office regarding this matter. This pilot program is not yet in effect and we are working to expedite its implementation. We will notify the membership of the details when finalized. Back To Top Timely Submissions Insure Accurate 65-2 Publication As noted on the UFA calendar each month, please submit info you would like published--in writing--by the first day of the month prior to the month you would like it published (if at all possible) to Recording Secretary Joe Miccio (fax: 212-683-4359 or email: 652@UFANYC.org). Make sure you have contact info included in case the UFA requires more info or clarification regarding your announcement or event. You should also make a quick call to the Recording Secretary's office just to verify your info was received. NOTE: In order to insure that only accurate info is published for the members, the UFA Constitution requires all official communications to be reviewed through proper channels prior to publication. This process may take a little extra time, but it helps the UFA to better serve you!!! Back To Top Raid Notice Engine 238 and Ladder 106 were raided the night of September 22 with negative results. Back To Top Need Repairs in Your Firehouse? HQ has established the FDNY Resource Center/Help Line to reduce the amount of paperwork (BB7s, etc.) necessary for building repairs. The Help Line deals with numerous issues, including exterminators, Nederman exhaust systems, plumbing or sewage issues. General issues should be called in, BY YOUR OFFICER ONLY, to 718-999-HELP (4357) between 7am-3pm Monday through Friday. A Work Order/Confirmation # will be assigned. During other hours FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY the line is forwarded to Operations. Outstanding BB7's (old paper versions) should be called in (BY YOUR OFFICER ONLY) to the Help Center also. If these problems are not resolved in a reasonable time, in order to get them corrected more quickly, Company Delegates should contact the UFA Health & Safety Office at 212-545-6965--not the Borough Trustee. Of course, if any condition places members in imminent serious danger and you are unable to reach the UFA Health & Safety Officer, call the UFA general number 24/7 at 212-683-4832.
