1. Bone Marrow Drive for Jake Amato
On Sunday, August 29th from 10am-4pm at Weldon E. Howitt Middle School, 70 Van Cott Ave. in Farmingdale a bone marrow drive will be held to find a match for Jake. Jake Amato is the 8 yr. old son of FF Ken Amato (E-274). Jake was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and needs a bone marrow/stem cell transplant. Participants will use a cotton swab to collect cheek cells that can be used to identify a bone marrow match. Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 55. 2. 2nd Annual World Trade Center Run to Remember
On Sunday, September 5th, at 11am on Governor's Island the 2nd annual World Trade Center Run to Remember will take place. The event includes a 5K run, a 3K family fun run/walk, children's fun run, and family entertainment. All proceeds of the event will benefit 9/11 charities. 3. FF Stephen P. Russell (E-55) Memorial Skydive
On Sunday, September 19th, from 10am-4pm, the 3rd Annual FF Stephen P. Russell Memorial Skydive will be held at Blue Sky Ranch, Gardiner, NY (www.skydivetheranch.com). 4. Elsasser One Pitch Tournament
On Tuesday, September 28th, 9:30am, Cunningham Park, 73rd Ave. (btwn. Francis Lewis Blvd & Clearview Expwy) in Queens. E-221/L-104 will host their annual tournament with proceeds going to the Thomas Elsasser Widows' & Children Fund for non-line of duty deaths. 5. 2010 UFA Scholarship Fund Application-Available NOW!
Applicants must currently be enrolled in college, trade or vocational school. This scholarship is for dependent children of active, retired or deceased Firefighters, Fire Marshals or Marine Wipers who are full-time students up to & including age 23 for undergraduate education. Dependent children, spouses of LOD deceased UFA members, & dependent children of non-LOD deceased UFA members are eligible to receive scholarships for undergraduate but must still fill out an application & provide proof of enrollment.
