STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The ninth annual Steve "Hangdown" Harrell Memorial Jam will be held Sunday, August 8, noon to 6 p.m. at Nansen's Lodge, 3465 Victory Blvd., Travis. Presented by the Men of Engine 255 and Ladder 157, "The Jolly Rogers," tickets are $50 for adults, $20 for children and children under 6 are free. For more information, call Kevin Kelly at 917-533-4500.Lt. Stephen Harrell was killed in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. Affectionately known as "Hangdown," Harrell was a songwriter, singer, keyboard and horn player. His family, friends and fellow musicians gather for the annual event to remember him and help firefighter families.
The day will be filled with the music of live bands, raffles, food, refreshments and children's activities.
All proceeds benefit the FDNY Elsasser Fund and The Fireman's Transport Fund. Both funds help firemen with coverage of non-line-of-duty injuries and also provides transport for injured firemen and their families.
The event honors Fire Lieutenant Steve Harrell who was killed on 9/11.
