1. SBF Benefits for College Students
In order to receive SBF benefits, parents of children attending college need to provide the Security Benefit Fund (SBF) with the following:

  • 1. A letter EACH SEMESTER from the school registrar, ON SCHOOL LETTERHEAD, listing the student's name and acknowledging he/she is taking 12 or more credits.
  • 2. A copy of a paid tuition bill from the college for each semester.

These items are necessary for the SBF to provide the proper benefits to the children of firefighters. 2. FF Engeldrum / PO McNaughton Memorial Rugby Match
REMINDER: On Saturday, May 15th at 7pm, Randall's Island, the FDNY will be hosting the NYPD in the annual Engeldrum/McNaughton Memorial Rugby Match. Tickets: $25 will be sold at the door. Gates open at 6pm.

3. FF Thomas Brick College Scholarships
The FDNY is now accepting applications for this year's FF Thomas Brick college scholarship program. Scholarships are available to all active FDNY fire officers and firefighters. Nine scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded for the 2010-2011 academic year. To apply, please complete an application and return to Chief of Department, Edward Kilduff, by Friday, May 21, 2010. Applications are available on the FDNY Intranet or by contacting Vicki Dunham at or (718) 999-0743.

4. Annual City Harvest "New York For Kids" Food Drive Mother's Day through Father's Day (May 9-June 20, 2010)
As per Dept Order No. 34, the Fire Department will once again participate in the annual food drive for children who are less fortunate. Last year, the Fire Department played an integral role in the collection of more than 25,000 pounds of canned and packaged food, helping to feed thousands of New York's toddlers. All firehouses and EMS stations have been designated as collection points for the drive. A City Harvest poster advertising the drive will be forwarded to each firehouse and EMS Station. This is to be displayed in public view through June 20, 2010. City Harvest will arrange food pickups from firehouses and EMS stations after June 20, 2010. Please call Racine Rodriguez from City Harvest at 917-351-8711 anytime after June 20th to arrange a pickup. When scheduling a pickup; make sure that food is stored in boxes or clear plastic bags, with a maximum weight of 50 pounds. All types of canned or packaged non-perishable food items are acceptable. Only baby food and baby formula will be accepted in glass containers. The Fire Department is proud to be participating in this worthwhile program again this year.
