BRONX (CBS) - New York's bravest broke down a door in the Bronx to save an entire family from flames.

The fire started in the kitchen of the second floor apartment in a building on West Tremont Avenue.

When firefighters arrived at the Morris Heights apartment they broke down the front door and they found a man and a woman unconscious right by it.

They pulled them out and performed CPR for 15 minutes until they started breathing again.

Captain Jim Rogers said that's what his job is all about. "It's always good. These guys are good. They train hard. Engine 43 and 59 are very protective of our neighborhood. They show a lot of pride in what they do, trying to protect the people of the Bronx."

Dozens of residents were forced out into the early morning freezing cold, but they were most concerned about the fate of their neighbors. "There was a lot of smoke, and there was a girl screaming and crying. I wish they're okay," said neighbor Marilyn Rosario.

"We were asleep. My son came home from a party, and he woke up, hear the lady screaming 'Call 911'. It's so sad. They're a nice family," neighbor Juan Rodriguez said.
