The UFA was informed today by the City Council that the FDNY gave the Council the legally required 45 day notice of its plan to permanently close four companies (E-4, L-53, E-161, E-271) effective July 1, 2009. The Dept notified the City Council on Friday, May 8th, after 6pm. No other companies were identified by the FDNY in its notice.
City Councilman James Vacca, Chairman of the Fire & Criminal Justice Services Committee, is holding a hearing tomorrow, Tuesday, May 12th, regarding the closings. The UFA will be attending and will update the membership as more information becomes available.
