World Police-Fire Games July 31 - August 9, 2009

UFA Sports Chairman / Bronx Trustee Eddie Brown announces that all active and retired Firefighters are invited to compete in the World Police & Fire Games (WPFG) 2009. Thousands of competitors participate from over 70 nations every two years in 65 different sporting categories. The FDNY has typically been represented by 100 to 250 athletes, plus their families, at this event in many places, including Adelaide, Australia; Stockholm, Sweden; Barcelona, Spain; Quebec City, Canada; Indianapolis, USA; Calgary, Canada; and more. Competition categories range from table tennis, golf and billiards to ice hockey, softball, boxing and much more. HOTELS: A large contingent of FDNY Members will be staying at the Renaissance hotel in Vancouver, which is located in the center of the city walking distance to transportation, the convention center/athletes village/registration and restaurants. TRAVEL: If you're arriving by air, you'll most likely be flying into Vancouver International Airport (YVR). Located just 25 minutes from downtown, YVR is consistently rated one of the best airports in North America. Cathay Pacific Airlines flies directly to Vancouver for approximately $460 round trip, and other airlines also fly to YVR.

EVENTS: A New York Reception, hosted by the NYC World Police & Fire Games 2011 Organizing Committee, will be held on August 4th at the Renaissance Hotel. Every Firefighter and Police Officer from NYC is invited. Other events will take place throughout the week. For more info go to www.2009wpfg.ca.
