Hospital Votes to Award Firefighter’s Love of Life

WEST HAVERSTRAW - Brian Smith, the New York City firefighter from Slate Hill who was seriously injured while fighting a fire last year, is getting an award from the hospital where he completed his rehabilitation.

Helen Hayes Hospital is presenting Smith with its Rose Award, given to the patient whose love of life and concern for others has made a difference to hospital patients and staff.

The award ceremony is at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the hospital lobby.
