STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Calvary Chapel is inviting firefighters and their spouses or significant others to dinner and a movie on Sept. 25.
The Rev. Dave Watson, pastor, and his Mariners Harbor congregation will treat firefighters and their guests to dinner at 7 p.m. at the Staaten in West Brighton.
Each couple will receive a photo portrait of themselves. Door prizes have been donated by Island businesses and sports memorabilia comes courtesy of the Rev. Willie Alphonso, chaplain for the New York Yankees and the New Jersey Nets.
Through a partnership with Princess Travel, one couple will win a four day, three night cruise. Mary Kay gift bags will be given to all the women present.
After dinner, the couples will see the New York City premiere of the film "Fireproof" at the Regal Theater, Stadium 16, in Mariners Harbor. The movie will begin at 9:15 p.m.
The evening is completely free of charge and open to all New York City firefighters. It is a continuation of the outreach Calvary Chapel has done to the Fire Department since 2001, when it organized Heroes Sunday to honor the every-day heroics of firefighters. Every year, on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, church members walk to the local firehouse in remembrance of all those who were lost.
The night out is being organized "as a token of appreciation for all that they do for our community," Rev. Watson said.
Seating is limited so RSVPs are necessary by Sept. 21. Call 718-720-8593 if you plan to attend.
The church office can be reached at 718-720-5390, or visit the Web site at www.calvarychapelsi.org. For information about the film, go to www.fireproofthemovie.com.
