1. UFA Scholarship Applications - Available 8/11
Applications and instructions for the UFA Scholarship Fund are now available on the UFA website: www.ufanyc.org. Deadline for submission is October 10, 2008.
2. Blood Drive
On Friday, September 5th from 9am-8pm, E-28/L-11 will be hosting a blood drive at their quarters located at 222 E. 2nd St., Manhattan. Ret. FF Roy Chelsen, a member of E-28 for over 20 years, was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer in 2005. After an initial operation was a success FF Chelsen learned the cancer had returned and he would need another stem cell transplant. For further info call E-28, 212-570-4228.
3. 7th Annual 9/11 Memorial Service
REMINDER: On Saturday, September 6th, 1pm at St Michael's Cemetery, located at 72-02 Astoria Blvd East Elmhurst Queens, a dedication of the First Responders Monument will be held. This year Tony LoBianco will be the guest speaker for the service to honor and respect the 76 Queens Firefighters, 37 Port Authority Police Officers, and the 23 Officers of the NYPD who died saving others.
4. 6th Annual BC Matthew Ryan Memorial Golf Outing
On Tuesday, September 16th, the 6th Annual BC Matthew Ryan Memorial Golf Outing will be held at the Holbrook Country Club, Holbrook, L.I., NY. Sign-In: 9am; Shotgun Start:10am. The cost of $170 per golfer includes event shirt, green fees, golf cart, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and open bar. 5. 3rd Annual Salute to Firefighters
On Thursday, September 25th, 7-11pm, at the Saloon located at 1584 York Ave (btwn. 83rd & 84th St.) presented by Adam's Angels, in memory of FF Adam D. Rand (Squad 288). Honor our fallen heroes and recognize the sacrifices New York's Bravest make everyday. FF tickets: $5, Military/Veterans tickets: $5, tickets for friends: $15 in advance. Tickets include live entertainment, drinks, and more. Proceeds will benefit the FDNY VFW, the Thomas Elsasser Fund, and the Terry Farrell Fund.
