Crown Heights Inferno Kills 1

A raging fire ripped through a Brooklyn apartment Saturday morning, killing a 67-year-old woman and seriously burning her daughter, officials said.

The blaze ignited in the Crown Heights apartment of May Yancey just before 5 a.m., officials said. The flames engulfed much of the third floor, forcing building residents to flee onto Rogers Ave.

But Yancey and her daughter, 44, were unable to escape, officials said. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, though FDNY fire marshals do not believe it was deliberately set.
