Firefighters Make Save In One-Alarm Blaze

A Bushwick mother and her three children were rescued from their burning apartment by a pair of firefighters after a one-alarm blaze broke out in their home last Thursday afternoon, Mar. 20, it was reported.

Fire Department sources said the fire started at around 3:40 p.m. in a hallway on the second floor of a three-story dwelling on Central Avenue near Halsey Street. Reportedly, Firefighters Rory Allen and Mark Loftus of Ladder Company 112 used a ladder to gain access to the four victims, who were trapped inside their apartment.

An FDNY spokesperson said the mother passed her children to the firefighters, who then helped them climb down the ladder to safety.

Once the youngsters were pulled from the structure, it was reported, Firefighter Allen then broke a nearby window and entered the apartment to rescue the mother.

Joining members of Ladder Company 112 in battling the blaze were Engine companies 218, 222, 233 and 277; Ladder companies 111, 124 and 176; Squad companies 1 and 252; REscue 2 and Battalions 28 and 37, who responded under the direction of Division 15.

No injuries were reported to the four victims nor the firefighters.

Using two hose lines, Fire Department sources said, the blaze was brought under control at around 4:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire was labeled suspicious and remains under investigation, it was noted.
