Three Firefighters Hurt in Brooklyn

Three firefighters were seriously injured on Wednesday afternoon at a fire in a residential high rise in Brownsville, Brooklyn, fire officials said.

The blaze at the 25-story building, at 301 Sutter Avenue, near Rockaway Avenue, began on the fifth floor shortly before 2 p.m. and was declared under control about 20 minutes later, the officials said. The cause was under investigation.

Three firefighters suffered severe burns, officials said. Two of them were taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and the third was taken to New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens. All three were in serious condition on Wednesday night, fire officials said.

Two other firefighters and five residents of the building suffered minor injuries. They were taken to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center and released, officials said.
